Memories of Fall

Apple cider mill trips to Yates. A chill in the air. Tag football games at camp. The smell of leaves burning. The crunch of leaves under my feet, when walking. Bundling up. Bright sunshine on a cool day. Learning new chorus songs for the year. Irresistable piles of leaves calling to be scattered. The smell of hot cocoa at the "lodge" at camp. New clothes for a new year of school. New shoes, too. Grandfather and Grandmother singing "Happy Birthday" to me on my 15th birthday at 6:30 in the morning, about three weeks before he died. A new and intimidating schedule of classes at school. Fall Festival at Rochester College, near our church. The smell of Mom's apple crisp cooling-off on top of the oven. Shaking off a chill. Trees turning vibrant-red with color. My first kiss with Doug. Getting dark earlier outside. Bobbing for apples. Running (in the dark, with the assistance of street lights) from our townhouse to Grandmother and Grandfather's townhouse in my pj's, to sleep-over the month before Grandfather died. Warm and wooly sweaters. Bike rides through trails with Doug. Coffee houses with Doug. Haunted houses with Doug. A Blues festival in Ann Arbor with Doug. Wind. Hiking up Amicalola Falls with Doug and his Dad. Car rides to Ellijay, to attend an apple festival. A Halloween party at the Berry's. The smell of a house, the first time the heater turns on. Warm socks. Galoshes. Long sleeves. Getting my driver's license. An amazing Harry Connick Jr. concert with Doug, which was the first birthday present he gave to me. The magnificent maple tree in our neighbor's yard. The feeling of freedom when driving on my own, with the Led Zeppelin IV (4) Album cranked. Making "Finger cookies" with Doug, hearing him laugh the entire time we made them. Carving pumpkins with Doug. Pumpkin seeds. Pomegranates. Indian corn. School crafts. Roller skating.

I am eager to see which of the new Fall memories with Ava will stand-out most. This is my favorite time of year, and I'm so thankful I now get to share it with Doug and Ava. I look forward to making many Fall memories with them both.

What are your favorite Fall memories?

Soak in the beauty of the season!

With love,
Shelly

You just can't argue with Fall! I just wish it lasted longer. We've got to figure out how to introduce the kid-os to the camp... while still living out of state. There is nothing I'd like better then for us all to spend a week counciling together.

I feel like we're too busy to enjoy some of those things of Fall and I am looking forward to getting reacquainted with them.

Sophie got to spend the weekend in the hospital, she's got broncialitis, she's home now and on the mend.
