All this political talk about lipstick...

The other day I returned home from picking Ava up from school with Ava toting my lip gloss… She likes to hold my occasional lip gloss tube, toting it around like a prized possession. I was tending to Liam's needs when I suddenly realized it was quiet. Too quiet. You parents out there know exactly what I'm talking about. It's deafening, that kind of silence.

I finished changing Liam's diaper and walked upstairs. There she sat, in the middle of her bed. Normally not one to retreat to her room by herself in the middle of the day, I knew something was up. I asked what she was doing before I even got to the door. Rounding the corner, I heard:

"The cap came off. Mommy, the cap came off."

Peering in her doorway, this is what I found:

Not quite with that look on her face... After she realized I wasn't going to get upset with her, she seemed to embrace her new look...) I ran to get the camera and instructed her NOT. TO. TOUCH. ANYTHING. This lip gloss is the goopy kind that Doug doesn't appreciate as much as I do... Too goopy for him, looks super cute though!

I took a little video (Liam is crying the entire time in the background... I can assure you we took care of him immediately following this video...). Ava seemed smitten with her "new look" in the mirror. When I asked her to smile for the camera, she never looked at the camera. She kept peering into the mirror, happy with her make-up application. :-)

Peace, love and smooches of a less goopy sort,
Shelly, Doug, Ava and Liam

Note: I think it's funny that she probably used more of this lip gloss tube in five minutes than I've used in an entire year...
