No Soup For You!

Done with the cabbage-soup thang. Very glad. Day #7 wasn't easy. I felt pretty weak toward the end, there. So, for breakfast? Fritos. Breakfast of champions.

I did lose 7-8 lbs during the week, but ultimately my goal was to prove I could finish something like this. It was good to detox, as well.

I started on the diet with an open mind, just hoping I could make it past day 3. I tried this diet a few years ago and kept forgetting words I wanted to say on Day #3. After consulting with Doug, I agreed that if I was forgetting words, it probably wasn't a good idea for me to continue on with this diet.

It did feel good to prove to myself that I could submit to something like this diet and finish it out. I REALLY wanted something to eat last night around 10 p.m., but didn't want to screw up 7 days of eating the way I was supposed to eat (per the diet). I played by the rules.

Thankful that I didn't succomb to that temptation and was able to keep mind over matter.

Things I learned:
- I don't need everything I want.
- I don't need as much food to survive as I thought. (Hopefully I "reprogrammed myself" here).
- Cabbage soup doesn't make me gag.
- I had enough food for my brain's "circuitry" to work. (Didn't forget words this time around).
- Any suffering I might've experienced was chump change compared to what many go through on a daily basis.
- Submitting yourself to something is not always a bad thing.
- Without needing to think about what to eat, my day / time was more free to do other things.
- If you have the will to finish something, you can, if only you choose to do it (and your body allows, in this case).
- Compounded good choices can make you look back and not want to screw up a good run (with one small bad choice).

Grandmother's Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

This is my first attempt at the under-over pie lattice thang. I found out I have a fellow rhubarb fan in Ava. :) Doug's not exactly a rhubarb fan.

I have happy memories of family gatherings where rhubarb pie was consumed.  In a bowl.  With milk poured over it.  Grandmother and Grandfather used to grow rhubarb in their backyard on Studebaker.  Good memories.

Ava had her own pastry mound going while this pie baked...towers 'o pastry! :)  I think we had the most fun eating it together afterward, though!

Cabbage Soupin' It

I had no paczki yesterday (Fat Tuesday), but instead I'm signing-up for a week of cabbage soup in hopes of kick-starting the metabolism. I don't think they even know what paczkis are here in Georgia...  This diet / cleanse will serve as a mini-form of Lent, too, I suppose.

P.S.-if I seem agitated a few days from now, you’ll know why!

Peace, love and lots 'o fiber,
Shelly
