MMM, tofu!

Ava Eats Tofu
Video sent by thecareyclan

I enjoy the occassional burrito with extra tofu from Moe's or Willy's. Doug and I refer to their burritos as "Duraflame logs", because the burritos are about that size... They're huge!

When I originally became pregnant with Ava, I tried to eat as healthy as possible, which meant more tofu, soy, salads, veggies, etc. Not that I adhere to a strict diet (on the contrary ;-), but I do still enjoy those foods.

I thought tofu might be good for Ava to try, because it is firm but can be chewed up pretty easily. And chock-full of protein. I know, I know, many people might think this a form of torture... As you can see in the attached video, Ava wasn't a big fan of tofu, trying it for the first time. :-) She has never gagged, but this was a first. :-)

The next day she ate pieces of very-ripe avocado, which seemed to evoke fewer gag-reflexes. The "good" fats in avocado are supposedly good brain food...

We're still searching for other soft, chewy "finger" foods for Ava to eat...She is getting better at feeding herself. It's pretty fun to watch. Now that she eats finger foods, she watches EVERY bite we take, as if to say, "Can I have some?"
