Busy as a Bumble Bee

I enjoy sitting down to relax, breathe, and reflect, as I'm sure most people do. Since Ava's birth(and especially since she's mobile now), I have been in a perpetual state of motion (thanks in part to a few morning cups 'o coffee).

When Ava was first born and people would call and ask "So, what did you do today?", I would think to myself, what did I NOT do today, but what DID I accomplish? I lived. I changed diapers. I fed Ava. She's not starving. She's sleeping well. I was successful today! The post I created when Ava was very small says it all: "Eat, sleep, diaper change, repeat".

It's interesting how much time I thought I would have to do things, before Ava arrived. I guess I romanticized the thought of being a Mom. Oh contraire, mon frere. Yet it has gotten easier. Still busy, but easier. We've fallen into a routine and know what Ava needs (this happened fairly early). I'm sure it will get even easier over time.

My Pa always said "you find time for the things you WANT to do," with which I completely agree. Thinking about that, the song "Cat's in the Cradle" comes to mind. I struggle with working full-time, attempting to be the best wife to Doug, best Mom to Ava, have my house clean, bills organized, dishes washed, laundry done, remember everyone's social security #'s, doctor's appointment times, etc. It seems the most important job right now, to me, is raising Ava to the best of my ability, as these are the especially critical years. Right now all the medial tasks seem to get done, somehow. We would love for Ava to have a little brother or sister sometime down the road. I just CAN'T IMAGINE how many clones I will need in order to accomplish everything. Kudos to parents of two or more! My heart goes out to you!

I will continue to say big prayers for ALL parents. It makes me smile to see a mom in a grocery store juggling two kids and multi-tasking. It's got to be the hardest and most rewarding job anyone could have. I feel privileged to have been blessed with Ava, and will try to find time for the things I really WANT to do, and what I should do...

Yay for playgrounds, sunny days, laying in soft green grass, bare feet, feeling the breeze on your cheeks and not looking at your watch! Pure bliss!

Shelly
